Privacy Policy
Draft · Updated October 10, 2026
1. About this policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Selk collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It covers the Selk apps, the Selk dashboard, and support. Selk is a business tool: contractors and solo operators decide what information about their customers and workers is entered, and are responsible for it toward those people.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: name, email or worker username, phone number, password (stored securely, never in plain text), role, and the company you belong to.
- Company profile: business name, trades, address, phone, email, description, tax settings, and any payment details you choose to print on invoices (Zelle, bank name, account and routing numbers, notes).
- Customer information you enter: customer names, phone numbers, emails, service addresses, private notes, ratings, and job history.
- Job information: work items, prices, estimates, invoices, payment records, schedules, assignments, notes, job photos, documents, price book, and van stock counts.
- Worker information: name, phone, username, start date, hourly rate, pay cycle, assigned jobs, clock-in and clock-out times, edits to those times, time-off requests, notes, and photos the worker adds.
- Worker details (optional, entered by the worker): home address, an emergency contact’s name and phone, driver’s license number, state and expiration date, and trade license level, number, issuing agency and expiration date. Only the worker and the contractor of the company they belong to (or asked to join) can see these. Selk uses the expiration dates only to remind the contractor before a license expires; Selk does not verify licenses.
- Subscription information: plan, trial dates, renewal status, and purchase records from Apple or Google (via our subscription provider). We never receive your card number.
- Support messages you send us.
- Technical information: device type, operating system, app version, and basic logs needed to keep the Service working and secure.
3. Information we do not collect
- No GPS tracking: Selk does not track workers’ or anyone’s location, in the foreground or background.
- No advertising IDs, no ad tracking, and no selling or renting of personal information.
- No customer card payments (payments happen outside Selk).
4. Microphone, camera, photos, and location
- Microphone and speech recognition are used only while you tap a mic button, to turn your words into text in that field. Speech is handled by your phone’s speech service (Apple or Google) under their privacy terms; Selk keeps only the resulting text you save.
- Camera and photos are used only when you add a photo to a job. Photos are stored with the job in your company account.
- Business address → weather: your company address is turned into approximate map coordinates on your phone; only those rounded coordinates are sent to get the weather forecast (Apple Weather). Your address is not shared with the weather service.
- Maps: tapping an address opens your maps app, which handles location under its own terms.
5. How we use information
- Run Selk: accounts, jobs, estimates, invoices, schedule, team, hours, van stock, and support.
- Sync your company’s data between your devices and with the workers you assign.
- Create the PDFs you ask for. Sending happens from your own phone (Messages, Mail, WhatsApp, or Share).
- Manage subscriptions and free trials.
- Keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and fraud, fix problems, and answer support requests.
- Send important notices about your account, security, billing, or changes to the Service.
- Understand overall usage in aggregate (for example, number of companies and jobs) to improve Selk. The Selk team dashboard shows company-level information and counts — not your customers, prices, or invoices.
6. Who can see your information
- Inside your company: the contractor (company owner) can see the company’s data, including workers’ hours and edits. Workers see only their assigned jobs (without prices), job notes and photos for those jobs, and their own hours, pay totals and details. Workers cannot see other workers’ details.
- Your customers see only what you send them (for example an estimate or invoice PDF, or a WhatsApp link to a document that expires after 60 days).
- Service providers that work for us under contracts limiting their use of data: our database, authentication, and file-storage host (Supabase); our subscription manager (RevenueCat); Apple and Google (app stores, billing, speech recognition, notifications); Apple Weather (rounded coordinates only); and our app build and delivery services.
- Legal reasons: when required by law or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or Selk.
- Business transfers: if Selk is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer under this policy, with notice to you.
7. How long we keep information
We keep information while your account is active. When you delete your account in Settings, we delete your account and, for a company owner, the company’s clients, jobs, documents, photos, and team links, typically within 30 days from backups. We may keep limited records longer where required by law, to resolve disputes, prevent fraud, or for security. Purchase records kept by Apple or Google are under their policies.
8. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections and stored with a reputable cloud provider. Database rules make sure each company can reach only its own data, and workers only what is assigned to them. Documents shared by link use expiring signed links. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, so please use a strong password and keep your phone locked.
9. Your choices and rights
- View and update your information in the app at any time.
- Delete your account in Settings → Delete account.
- Turn off microphone, camera, or photo access in your phone’s settings.
- Contact us to request a copy of your information, correction, or deletion.
Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Virginia, Texas, and other US states), you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To use a right, contact us through Help → Support chat. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our answer.
10. Customers’ and workers’ information
If your information was entered into Selk by a contractor (for example, as a customer or worker), that contractor controls it. Please contact them first. We will help them respond and will assist directly where the law requires.
11. Children
Selk is for businesses and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Where information is processed
Selk is operated in the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States by us and our service providers.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect, and update the date at the top.
